Keilara McCormick, Michael's wife and co-owner, grew up in Utah. The couple married in 2017, and in 2020, Keilara crafted a pair of personalized sneakers for Michael’s birthday. This thoughtful gift sparked an idea: What if others wanted to design their own custom sneakers too?
The concept for Hodgepodge Sneakers began to take shape, and by 2023, it became a reality.
In early 2023, Michael faced an unexpected challenge when he was laid off from his finance job.
Determined to turn the setback into an opportunity, he filed for an LLC that very same day. With Keilara maintaining her full-time job to provide stability, Michael poured his heart and energy into bringing Hodgepodge Sneakers to life. This bold and nerve-wracking decision laid the foundation for the brand's first storefront.
Today, their shop in Sugar House, UT is more than just a store—it’s a creative hub where people come together to craft something truly unique. From individuals to birthday parties and special events, Hodgepodge Sneakers is all about blending creativity with lasting memories, one custom pair at a time.
Michael’s ultimate dream is to expand to multiple locations and use the business as a platform to give back to the community. For now, the focus remains on nurturing the shop, fostering creativity, and ensuring every customer walks out with sneakers they’re proud to wear.
At Hodgepodge Sneakers, it’s about more than just the shoes—it’s about the stories, the creativity, and the joy of doing what you love.
Hodgepodge Sneakers started with a simple idea
Combining creativity, a love for sneakers, and a leap of faith. Michael Hodgman has been a sneaker head through and through since he was a little kid. His love for shoes eventually led him to start restoring his own pairs back in 2010. Originally from the Bay Area, Michael’s upbringing, the local culture, and basketball shaped him into who he is today.
